Rough Idle and Poor Fuel Economy I have a 1983 Mustang "L" automatic transmission- 1 barrel Carburetor and of coarse 2.3L.
During the summer I averaged 20-22 MPG but now the MPG has dropped to 16-17 MPG.I recently blocked the EGR by putting a metal plate between the carburetor and the EGR valve.
My symtoms are :
Rough idle pulsating between 500-1250 RPM when warm.
My exhaust pipe is getting red hot when I drive up one of our WV mountains. The air pump is supposed to go to by-pass acuated by the carburetor WOT switch. I have no voltage at the WOT switch. What and where is the electrical supply for the WOT switch? Does the voltage go directly to the coil of the electrical over vacuum relay?
THis morning (24 degrees) I started the car to warm up. The RPM was 2000. I tapped the accelerator after 45 seconds to take the choke off. The rpm fell to 1000 RPM and I went back into the house.
I went back to the car in about five minutes. The car was running at 3000 RPM and the exhaust is red hot.
I can not find a vacuum leak but the heater/AC fan is blocked when when accelarating. ( the vacuum operated door closes) Can anyone give me advice on what needs changed out? Also is there a place where all the acronems(sp?) of the vehicle are given? |
