Default just bought a 1993 2.3L convertible .. many questions!

OK, I probably got riped off when I paid $1700 for this car, but now i have to deal with it and fix all that seems to be wrong with it.

Firstly, the white smoke that comes out for about 2 minutes or so when u first turn on the car .. i have noticed that the coolant is low, so based on my research in the last couple days (since i bought the car), it is a bad gasket .. i have read the procedure and as detailed as it is, doesn;t seem to be an impossible task .. maybe a couple days of work and a $100 worth of gaskets? Am i being a fool here?

Second. I hear this very loud humming/buzzing sound from the fuel tank, what seems to be the fuel pump .. does this mean the pump is going bad and need to replace ASAP? How complicated is this procedure?

Third. Considering the issues, Did i pay way too much for this car? it has only 70K on it. The body and top are in good shape but the car was painted black (original red).

Thanks.

On the white smoke thing. If it only happens for the first minute or so you could have oil leaking into the cylinder. It comes from bad valve seals. The oil pumped into the head, once the car is shut off, leaks into the cylinder. I would think if it's a bad gasket, it would smoke all the time.
But I wouldn't think your valve seals would be going at 70k miles. Are you sure it's not 170k miles? Then valve seals would sound about right.

First of all, all that matters is that yyou are happy with the car. The head gaskets can be replaced within 6 hours or so from start to finish. The problem is that you may need to take them to a machine shop to have them checked to make sure that they aren't warped. Fuel pumps are also not that expensive. Just drive the car around until its almost empty. Do the heads, take them to the machine shop, and drop the tank while you are waiting on the heads. To replace the fuel pump will take you about 1 1/2 total if will have a lift.

Your fuel pump is fine it only does it to build fuel pressure before it starts.

Your head gasket could be the oil like yomadmike said or it could be the head gasket its just not leaking bad yet since when a car warms up the metal expands clamping harder on the seal causing it not to leak.

It is most likely 170K get a carfax and see what it says mine says 94k but carfax has a history of a rollover so it has about 194K but mine still runs strong its mostly the pick of the draw.

Price wise it doesnt sound bad if it looks good mine looks like crap and i paid 1G for it post up some pics and let us know what it looks like.
