I have a 1988 Mustang with a 2.3.... I was wandering how big of a cam I could run and still retain my EFI? I have been doing some searching and I am not coming up with a answer. I also plan on running a Ranger header....I am looking for just a little more power. But I am not looking to turbo it, becuase this is litterally a brand new Ford crate motor that I bought off of a friend of mine.
ranger header will make some top end. i have one if needed. try at 5L throttle body also. bolts in with very little mod. you just need to oblong the holes a hair and the extend your throttle linkage back, dont run A/C belt, make a cold air intake, if you really want you can port and polish your intake ports.
i am running the mild one from comp cams.. dont go very big, but i would get a mildly built one from anywhere..
What size cam are you running?.... How big is not very big? I don't want to put to big of a cam in the car, and have it fight with the computer and ruin the driveability.
You could probably get injectors from a V8, Esslinger sells a intake to bolt on a bigger TB like for a 302 that looks alot like the 4bbl intake. I guess you could tune the computer or get a chip for it. Theres nothing wrong with a carburated 2.3, sounds the same(surprisingly) makes a tad less hp till modded. Plus the valve cover looks better, lol

No, there is nothing wrong with carburation. But I prefer fuel injection....
The comment about bigger injectors????? I don't don't see how that would benefit me, when there is no way to tune the factory ECM.... Atleast that I have found.... So, I guess my question is. How big of a cam could I run, with the factory ECM?
Like i said I put a 268 in my mustang and it's a EFI. It has a nice cammed idle and makes a good bit more power. you know how a stock 2.3 just stop makeing power a 3,000 rpm. Mine just keeps an going now, more torque everything. Also it revs LOTS better now and dosen't sound like it's going to blow up. I sujest this cam for anyone, it still alows your car to driveable but still sounds and performs well. I think it's the right cam for this car.

Do you have an Idle vid of your car?.... I am interested in hearing how it sounds.
I got mine off the comp cam web site. I did not put stiffer springs in it. I did put a set of new comp cam lifters in it. Putting springs in it required you to take off the head or put rope in the cylinders to hold the valves up so I fiqured it would be good. I haven't had any problems with it so it should be fine
