Default Coverting from Vane Air Meter to Mass Air Sensor

The Merkur Club of America has a website which states a change from VAM to mass air sensor will produce some significant HP and torque gains over the stock setup.

I would like to give it a try by using a ford mass air sensor and splicing into the VAM wiring that ends at the EEC unit.

Does anyone have experience with this kind of swap?

Here is the website if you are interested: Merkur Club of America - Modern Performance 2000 results

My mom used to have a Merkur. It was the first car I ever saw that had reclining BACK seats! Plus it was pretty quick. If I remember right the XR4Ti comes turbo charged?

Anyways... What year is your Merkur? A Merkur is basically a German made Ford, so parts can be interchangeable.

Thanks! I'll keep checking.
The VAM is below the air filter
the xr4ti is german chassis with north american engine 2.3L Turbo EFI.
The one I have now is a 1987 automatic.
I was surprised that the modern performance web site doesn't have any listings for Merkur OR 2.3L turbo parts like a MAF sensor kit or a larger throttle body (both were boasted to give large HP and ftlb gains using modern performance parts)
