Default thinking out loud and need info on building a turbo'd 2.3

ok, so i got a 93 2.3 lx from a guy for fixing a couple of small dents in his truck. the body is in ok shape but thats what i do, so fixing it will be ok and cheap, minus parts and materials. ok, i have been day dreaming about building a turbo motor for this thing and i have searched a lot of info on doing so. i want this to be reliable. i plan on running it in either NASA or SCCA. i want 350-400hp i still have a couple of questions though. heres what i wanna do, notice i said wanna, so if it sounds stupid, its only because i dont know any better

-stock block
-forged pistons
-maybe a stroker kit
-front mounted intercooler
-larger injectors
-fuel pump
-larger radiator and fan
-volvo head swap, maybe
-t-5 swap
-8.8 rear

ok, the questions i have are
-if i dont go with a junk yard turbo, what should i use? not brand wise, but size?
-can i have my computer dyno tuned or do i have to find one from a turbo coupe, svo, etc?
-does the volvo head swap net enough power gains to make it worth doing if i do everything else i wanna do?
-what cam should i use?

From what I've read the stock block is plenty strong enough to turbo, but you will need forged pistons. Now I don't have any real experience with turbo applications so I cant comment on a turbo but what you posted seems to be the norm except the volvo head. I've heard that it does help a lot but from what I hear the gains aren't worth the amount modification needed. I'd say to maybe do some head porting, intake, a mild (or wild, with the numbers you want) cam, and a good exhaust system along with what you posted. There's a guy who seems to do good head work, but i don't have any real experience with him. I am considering having him do a head for my II though. There seem to be a lot of people happy with his work. Http://www.bo-port.com

OK, here are my $.02:

-The block will work, but getting over 300 HP you will eventually see a rod leave the block. The stock rods will not cut it in the area(s) of power you are looking at. A strocker kit with H-beam rods are in order. Essy or Racer Walsh can help you there.
-Boport is a real class operation. He is actually selling a tall deck block right now that is used by all the big guns who throw out 700+ HP. Contact him for more info. A nice person to deal with. He does heads, intakes, cams, etc. For the amount invested, he will get you the HP you want without piecing things together from multiple sources........and then hoping they sing together.
-A stock SVO, TC, ect. turbo will just get you to 300 HP. You need to go bigger. Contact Evergreen turbo and talk to Charlie. A class guy. You will need to give hime the engine specs and some info on what you want the car to do before that conversation though.
-Forget the Volvo thing IMO. Too much work and money for my taste.
-If you go larger injectors, you will need a stand alone ECM of some sorts. The stock computer will only have "X" amount of injector pulse, and then try and compensate all day for running "fat" on the AF ratio. There is no tuning the older EEC unless you can get your hands on a hard to find EEC tuner. MegaSquirt is a good route, and they are getting cheaper every year. There are plenty of DIY articles and such on the net, you just have to look a bit.
-A stock 2 row radiator and fan are fine.
-Forged pistons are a must with a turbo application
-For a track car, the machining is going to be the key, along with quality components. For example, don't try and scrimp $20 bucks or so on a head gasket. You will just be re-learning the torque specs on it when you are replacing it.
-In addition, you have mentioned 0 about the suspension. That will the main ingredient in a track car. That is why the SVOs can play with the V8s.....

thanks navy

suspension, i wanna do a tubular k-member kit from UPR and subframe connectors. i plan on talking with maximum motorsports for a lot of that stuff.

i just wanna be able to have a little more fun out of something that is different. a lot of the people i know automatically said V8 swap when i told them i got this thing. i just dont wanna go that way though. its not gonna be an all out race car. i dont plan on traveling around following the races, i live near robeling road race way around savannah, ga and im only 4 hours from road atlanta, just wanna hit them up from time to time.
