Default Turbo to N/A conversion

Hey, thanks in advance for any help. My 18 yo cousin bought a 92 lx vert with an 8? turbo 2.3 in it. The guy who did the work on it left connectors disconnected, wires unhooked....IT IS A TOTAL MESS. It keeps loosing fuel press., replaced pump and still looses press.

I think it would be easier to convert to carbed for now.....

My ? is, what would be involved in converting it to N/A? Money is an issue, he has a donated intake and weber carb.

It would be a royal pain and cost $$$$, losing fuel pressure can be, the Pump, the fuel regulator return stuck open dumping the fuel back to the tank, should be a simple fix. was the pump you put in new ??

I agree. Weber low fuel pressure, need fuel pump on block or low pressure pump in tank. Plus turbo motor is low compression engine. Would loose lot of HP. Does 92 have the black box on passenger fender. If does it is a IRCM. Has the fuel pump relay in it. I would try a used one of them before giving up. Did you replace the fuel filter?

madmaxx69: Yes the fuel pump was new, where is the regulator located?

mg man 75: It does have the black box on the fender, and the first thing I did was replace the filter.

He picked the car up from having the fuel pump replaced, and noticed fuel dumping when turning. The shop didn't replace the fuel filler gasket.....Could this have been causing the problem? It wasn't leaking before.

Thanks again for your help!!!

They could have pinched the gasket or let it fall into the hole. Had this happen on company 96 ford truck when we changed gas tank because it had hole in it. Glad to hear replaced filter we had some idiot mechanic work on our company trucks. It had repeat fuel pump failure. Come to find out they were not changing filters. No problem since firing them. That is reason I was concern. They may have reused the hose on pump in tank and has hole in it or clamps or loose or sock plugged. In other words pump putting out fuel but dumping back into tank if hose or clamps loose or bad hose. If pump is running no worry about the relay box. Obviously you have voltage to pump. Regular on fuel rail near alternator has 3 screws holding it down and has vacumn line on it to the intake. Unsure vacumn line maybe on turbo only. Here is picture of it. Ps good site to get info on your car. AutoZone.com | Vehicle Selection - Year If turbo related use 86 to 88 ford thunderbird 2.3

1st, replace the filler gasket

Next, replace the FP regulator. It is located on the fuel rail above the intake runners. One from a 5.0 will work as well. They are pretty much all the same.
