Default The engine turns over but won't start.

I have a little '92 lx 2.3.
It just gave out yesterday in a parking lot.
I had no problems before, then it shoot a little and turned off.
I started it again but it soon turned off again and wouldn't start after that.
Every time I try to start the car, the engine turns over and that's it.
A little smoke came up from underneath the hood.
The car won't start.

Has anyone experienced this problem or does anyone have an idea of what's going on?

fuel pump, fuel pump relay, ecm relay, ignition module, mass air flow, could be anything. check that you're getting fuel and spark first.

I have a problem similar to that but no smoke under the hood. Here's the scoop. i have a 91 2.3l mustang, it will turn over perfectly fine but wont start. the other morning i went to start it and it fired, but i hit the gas a bit to about 3500rpm and heard a whistling sound maybe coming out the exhaust with almost steam coming out. it also smelt very strong of carbon monoxide. then it slowly died. hasnt fired up since but turns over and tries like none other. any suggestions on what it may be?
