Default E6 Exhaust Manifold Help

Can anyone with E6 knowledge provide me with some pointers on inspecting the condition of an E6 manifold?

Specifically, do cracks appears obvious to visual inspections?
Is there a quick test(s) I can perform if the manifold is cracked?
Is a crack worth repairing?
What pitfalls or signs (if any) do I need to look for?

Are E6 manifold worth keeping?

Any help or advise is greately appreciated.

Thanks all

I have had some e-3 cracked. Can see them, One on bottom and second between number 2 and 3 exhaust ports. But you asked about a e-6. Never seen it on e-6. Read recommendation to always have the brace at bottom of turbo to support it. E-6 is what everyone wants so I say keep it or sell. Or buy a manifold. Could use a welded ells and build one. Hope that helps. Maurice

Ditto on mg man.

The E6 usually does not crack at all. It may have broken studs, but they can be replaced.
The E6 is a good manifold, but there are better out there like
Bob's Log and Rod's Header (starting to make them again). But, be prepared to pay out for these.
Unless you are looking to crack over the 350 HP mark, the E6 is just fine.
As for detecting cracks, sandblast it and inspect.

Thank you both for your quick and expert advise. I'll keep you all posted on how I make out with the manifold.

Cool

E6's tend to crack almost as often as E3's. This is usually due to a missing turbo brace but sometimes they just crack. Bad design flaw. As stated they tend to crack on the outside between runners 2 & 3. Most of the time you can see the crack. I went through 3 before I found one that was crack free, or so I thought! Just for fun I had the machine shop magnaflux it and sure enough, there was a tiny crack between 2 & 3. I went ahead and ported it anyway, mounted it on my TC (with the turbo brace) and have been driving it for a couple of years now with no issues.

Well, just picked up an un-ported E6 last Saturday. It looks pretty good and I looked at the area(s) most prone to cracks as you all suggested and I was not able to locate one. However, I'm no expert. I've include a few pics I'd like to share. Pardon me if the pics are not attached.

Cool

It's hard to tell from the pic but is this anything?

Except for that flaw (which may be nothing), it looks pretty good. The best thing to do is take it to a machine shop and have it magnafluxed. I had mine done, it took 5 minutes and they didn't charge me anything.

If you want to try porting it yourself, this may help.................

Thanks for looking and your thoughts. I'll look into the area you pointed out and have it magnafluxed.
