Exclamation Convertible Pump Problem

I have an '89 Mustang 2.3 Convertible when I bought it the convertible top went up and down, but not easily sometimes I had to help it up and down. Then one day I went to try to lower it and the motor just sort of hummed quieter than usual and nothing happened. Been like that ever since. So I looked through my manual figuring it was low on fluid but when i took it out it felt full. After I removed the hoses connected to it I tried to loosen the reservoir plug and it wouldn't turn. I tried using a wrench but it looks like it might need a special tool? Anyways it won't come off and because that happened I had to manually let it down and one day the window shattered. So I figure I should replace the motor pump? But im not sure I can't really pay $150 for a new one. I already ordered the window and thats all my money right there. Any suggestions what the problem may be if the motor is not out?

I have an '89 ragtop also. My top works fine so I'm not sure. If the motor is humming then you probably have good electrical power but just to make sure I would throw a meter on the harness connector. I took a peek at my factory shop manual and the troubleshooting diagnosis said nothing about adding fluid, it was all about electrical. Go to your local Pick-N-Pull yard, grab a used motor and throw it in there. Shouldn't cost much. Definitely less than $150!

I'll definitely try that and see what it says, thanks. Will also try and see if the pick and pull has a motor, ive seen less mustangs in their over the years, last time I went their was only two and neither were convertibles. But they put new cars in quite frequently so hopefully I can find one and it works. I also might have a low battery might that also be the reason it's not working properly?

Sunny here in California went for a ride in the Mustang today. Just wish I could get that damn top to work properly.
