Default 2.3 with 460 head boost to 200hp?

im in the process of finding a new engine for my car. i was talking to one of my uncles who said that putting the head off a 460 and a 4 barrel would push it up to 200hp and still get decent mileage. does anyone know if this works and would it be easier/cheaper than just dropping a 351w in it which is wat my plans are for the moment. thanks

WHAT?!?!? That is not even possible! There is a pushrod Ford 4 cyl in Australia that runs a 429/460 head. Our little 2.3 sohc won't mate to it, maybe he was talking about the 4.6? Even still I don't see that working either.

the 2.3l in a tempo had a pushrod engine, but a 460 is a big block and the heads are twice the width of the 2.3, can't see how it would work. maybe it's a dohc volvo head...? theres guys up in canada running dirt oval race tracks up to 300hp 2.3l's but it's all engine/head work and 2 barrel carbs.

??? 460 pushrod engine. 2.3 overhead cam. 4.6 no, no won't fit. Only heads I know will fit is. 2.3 single and dual plug. Essinlinger [spelling] A couple of DOHC protype by Ford. Don't even look for one. I think there was only 5 or less made. The 2.3 Volvo DOHC head and Volvo SOHC head. Here is one of those head on a motor I got. Volvo head pictures by mgman75 - Photobucket

While the 460 head on a 2.3 Lima is BS, there is was an engine made by Ford for marine use that was an inline 4 and did use a 385-series (429/460) head. The real kicker? The SBC bellhousing bolt pattern.

They're pretty hard to come by these days. There was one last year for sale on Turboford though.

They are only available from Ford Australia. The are used for industrial and marine use.
