Default 1989 Mustang 2.3 Oil Guage Needle Whipping Around, Making Lots of Noise

Started a few weeks ago on a really, really cold day, my oil guage needle whips around so much when I first start the car up and when I'm idling that it's very, very loud -- like a loud ticking. Car still drives fine, as far as I can tell (I put about 500 miles a week on the poor thing), but the oil guage needle just "pops" around between halfway and 0, except when it's under throttle (where it sit pretty steadily at halfway).

Sometimes I notice when it's sitting at halfway it's kind of "wiggling," too -- anyone got any ideas as to what this is? Just did an oil change (was regularly scheduled anyway).

Ha -- thanks! Looks like I'll need to get that changed right away. Just glad it's nothing too serious. This kinda job take a long time to do?

Are you sure you checked your oil?

I posted a thread about the same thing like a week ago and it did the same thing as yours does especially on cold days. My Oil pressure gauge was bouncing around, and lifters were ticking. I checked the oil and it was practically running dry. Filled it up and problem solved. On yours its either that or as well as the sending unit. Something serious would be like worn out engine bearings, and worn fuel pump.

Aye, I had let it get pretty low, but I've since topped it off and changed it since then. Still doing it, though.

Wanted to ask -- where did you get your Rear Window Louvers!?! Always wanted some of those on my fox body stang.
