Default 1988 Fuel Tank Configuration Questions

Ok guys, I have a ford 2.3 turbo drivetrain in an XR4Ti

long story short, our fuel tank is garbage and I know of some folks who have grafted an 88 Mustang fuel tank into the merkur.

I know there are 2 holes on the tall portion near the filler neck hole--one for the vapor recovery system and one for the sending unit

now for the final opening in the tank
there is a hole in the center of the fuel tank, what is that hole for?

any help would be greatly appreciated....

the next project after this one is my 1968 Mustang Coupe (my first car)...so I'm not a total poser

ahh so my understanding was in error. Ok next question then

what are the 2 holes for in the tall portion near the filler neck?

I assume one is for the vapor recovery system and is the other for the Fuel level sensor?

I know the sending unit is held in place with a lock ring. Is the level sensor held in the same way, or does it bolt in? The universal unit from autozone has a 5 bolt pattern bolt in system. thats why I ask.

and thanks for the welcome. I post here, turboford, merkursport and the megasquirt forums under the same name. I know way too much about the electrical and ignition systems for these cars

I can't remember that area. I know there is one small hose that goes to the charcoal cannister that is engine area. I am also on Turboford.net same name. Don't post much, Not that smart. Megasquirt is next thing I wish to learn. Want that on my 2.3 turbo MGB. I going to do a little bit of searching and see what I can find. This way we put a 86 turbocoupe fuel pump in the MGB tank.

just so I am clear

here is a pic of the tank http://i253.photobucket.com/albums/h...s/fueltank.jpg

youre saying hole 1 is the hole for the sending unit and attaches in with a locking ring

Hole 2 is for the fuel level sensor for the gas gauge ?

and hole #3 I am pretty sure is for the line that goes to the charcoal cannister

anything u wanna know about megasquirt, lemmie know. I too post on the Turboford site under the same name. My buddy Raze and I have been at this for 3 years
thanks

You got me curious so done some looking. Found this picture. While we find your parts, please enter your ZIP Code at PartsAmerica.com 3 holes like you said. Small one is a vent line, one is fuel pump. Sorry unsure now. 1 is fuel pump , smallest top one is cannister and third is sender. I am going to crawl under my car tommorrow and look. I want to be sure. Thanks Maurice

the tank is coming off of a daily driver so it works....best part, the whole deal for 25 bucks

Default Sending unit location ?????

Hello.. I'm in a little dilema and can't figure out whats goin on. I have an 80 Capri. Just bought a mustang fuel sump from LRS and i'm not sure what to think.. First, the sump is supposed to conform to the bottom of the tank, but the end that angles down to make contact with tank on opposite side of fittings has over a 1/2 inch gap from it to the tank surface. Also.. my fuel sending unit is on the front bottom passenger side of the tank and not on the top of the tank like pictures i've seen. What gives!!???

Ok, and? I am confused as to why you posted this.

Are you just telling us that this thread helped you out? If so, good deal.
