Default Replacing the ring gear and clutch.

Is this a difficult task?

I put a new drive into the starter, and it wasn't even my problem in the first place!!

A ring gears hard to find from places like Gilberts or Lordco?

I don't know what you mean :P

The ring gear for the starter in the transmission at the front I presume, as for the clutch well...the driving / gear clutch?

I think the ring gear your referring to is the flywheel, if the teeth are still good(no chips or teeth missing) just have the surface machined, if teeth are messed up by a new ring and then have everything machined. And get the new clutch as well. If you replaced the starter and it didnt fix your problem there is more than likely going to be mangled teeth on that flywheel.

Thanks yeah, my terminology is off. The flywheel is more than likely the issue. When I crank it, I can hear the starter drive unit grinding on the flywheel, telling me the teeth are worn to hell.

I am just doing the clutch because I am working down there anyway, might as well replace the clutch when in rome!

Just buy a new flywheel (they're cheap) and clutch and install it.

Hey again Turbo.

Yeah, I don't know where to get a flywheel. It seems like a part that wouldn't be easy to find outside of a junkyard.

I already know where to get a clutch for $100, brand new. It's the flywheel that is questionable.
