What tool is needed to remove an exterior door handle? I looked at the bolts on the handle and they look like rivets. Bought a new handle at the parts store but no instructions on how to replace. Any help appreciated.

My door handle broke on my 89 GT. Those rivets need to be drilled out. Be careful not to spin off the rivet cause you will scratch up the door.

I just replaced the passenger side exterior handle on my 1988 LX and all i had to do was punch the rivet from the outside with a screwdriver....then pop the door panel off and bend the rest of the rivet til it broke off...didnt affect the holes at all and i replaced the rivets with 1/4" 20 bolts. Works great!
