Default upgrading cam on 1991 NA- need new followers too?

Hey all. Here's the situation- im workin on my car as my senior project, just started with doing mechanical fix-ups (im sure we've all heard that one before ). Had some noisy lifters, so now i've got them out, and while im waiting to recieve my injectors (sent them off to get cleaned and checked out) i've started thinking. It turns out, counting my pennies (literally- bought myself a change sorter and found just over $200 in change sitting around in cups and boxes around the house), why not throw a cam in while im at that point annyways?

now the questions-

1. What size camshaft would you recommend for a daily driver? This one from summit racing seems to be a good bang for the buck. http://store.summitracing.com/partde...4&autoview=sku Im not trying to make it a v8 or nothing, but just looking to wake it up a little so it will actually pull when you rev it.

2. Will I need to buy new followers too? I know with a flat tapet camshaft you would need to due to the camshaft forming its own specific wear point, but with the roller camshafts it appears that there is not going to be the same situation.

3. Everything I plan to/have replaced are as follows: New fan motor (bearings were shot in the old one), water pump (still had original in
a motor with 185,000 miles on it), PCV vaulve (found in pieces when tore into the engine), Lifters, and I plan to go through and check most if not every sensor to replace that I can at this point. Are there any other suggestions on what I should replace/ look at with keeping in mind as said above the engine has 185,000 miles on it?

sorry for the long post, I would just like to get the job done correctly and thoroughly while I have it torn apart.

a cam isn't going to help much with the factory restrictive exhaust and intake system. the other thing is a 91 has mass air so does it need to be calibrated with a different cam? i don't know but i think it would.

While your at it youvmight as well go ahead and change the rear main seal on the motor and possibly the front seal of the trans. Also like said above get an intake and do some free flowing exhaust work. That should help.

Thanks for the tips, I would like to do the heads as well but those could turn out to be both a money and time issue... I guess thats what I get for puting this off till the last minute.

What would you reccomend be the cheapest rout for the intake system? my car is a 91, so dealing with the mass airflow sensor could be a tricky issue I would immagine.

Well I am putting on some "new" exhaust, but I only planned on putting a verry mild muffler and stock tailpipe on, due to the fact that the tailpipe rusted off at the tip of the muffler and that my muffler is so rusted out that it's practically a tailpipe, and im tired of it being louder on the inside of my car than the outside! If it turns out i dont have quite enough money to do the camshaft, mabe ill look into getting an all new exhaust as an exchange

As for the question of obtaining new followers with a new cam........simply, YES.

I'm with NAVY on this one. add the followers. The stock exhaust manifold is good to go up about 5500rpms, so just get rid of the cats, and you should be good with a mild cam.
