How is this done? can i use a drummel or something. and is there a special coating needed for the inside.? Heard it adds a little more ponies. . Any one done this before.???
Mine is midly ported on upper and lower but I am turbo. Whether will help a NA unknown. Is your turbo. Need a air grinder. Dremel too light duty. Also dust mask. Don't want to breath alumium. Here is how major porting can be done. Mine is just opened up and port matched also ported to the a 5.0 throttle body. MerkurTech.com
no its not a turbo. not yet at least. as soon as i find a t-bird. ill swap it in. untill that day im making the best of what i got. Just wanted to know how it was done and if it is easy to do.
No problem. If offended by asking if turbo no offense intended. Just answer too many post to remember who is and who is not. Not real hard to do just takes time and air compressor. Believe me tried the Dremel tool. Had to buy air grinder and another Dremel tool. Good luck with your search. Remember the Merkurs has the 2.3 turbo also. That is how I know.
i used an air grinder on mine, just bought a bunch of different attachments and went to town.. as far as the horse gain, i never drove the car when it wasn't ported, becuase when i got my car the motor was blown, and i did it before the motor went back in. give it a try, it wasnt that complicated really
Thanks you guys. I work @ a factory that has non stop air compressors. so ims try and get my intake in there and grinf the holes down. Also is there a difference between the intakes with 2 holes and the ones with 4. i almost bought a lower with 2 holes for my upper intake with 4 i thought it would cause some sort of problem.
2 vs 4 holes. I thought all were 4. I do know the 4plug intake will not fit the 8plug head. And there is 2 differant 8plug heads with differant intakes. Not sure if the will interchange. Also 87-88 turbocoupe has a shorter upper that will not fit the lower without using the notched valve cover. That is ones I know of. I know the SVO is differant but can't comment haven't seen one in person. Hope that didn't confuse everyone.
ummm a little out of the blue but I used muratic acid to port mine. It reacts with aluminum and turns it into mush. It isn't strong enough to each through it though. You just tuch it up with a grinding drum and its good. Mine is really ported and gave me some noticeable top end.
I just ported my upper intake this weekend, (all weekend!), first, I cut it in half just behind the mount for the throttle cable bracket, then used a sawall to remove the four port center, then a cutting wheel to open the plenum, and then sanding wheels with a die grinder. I used a 65mm throttle body from a 94 GT, and made an adapter plate, and then an adapter plate to fit the opening where I cut it in half, and had my friend weld the second plate on, as well as a peice of plate to mount the cable bracket, which is now moved back a few inches. I tried to use the stock 2.3 IAC, but it idled at about 3500 RPM, which I think is because the butterfly on the new throttle has a hole, and the stock one doesn't, so i made a block off plate and adjusted the idle screw. It wants to stall for a couple seconds on cold start, but after that it runs fine, with a noticable power improvement. I had planned to port out the lower intake at the same time, but I spent all weekend just on the upper, so I'll do the lower later. I may just pull the head and port it at the same time.
There is a idle screw under the bottom of the 65mm throttle body. May need to close it off some so iac can control it more. Unfortuately must remove throttle body to adjust and reinstall.
I am not talking about the stop screw. There is one on the bottom. Read this link http://www.forced4.com/tbadapterkit.html It is in the paragraph. "remember to set your base idle" Using a 7/64 allen wrench. Hope this helps you out. Maurice
I know a litlte about porting the intake, but you guys are a little over my head here. I want to know more.

No in the throttle body itself is a allen screw. Mine idle at 2000 rpm. It is on the bottom against the valve cover. Will have to remove adjust install, remove , install etc until get it correct. SloPony check out link in my first post also here is another. Intake Mainfold
