Red face 93 2.3L Vanishing oil?

I have a 1993 LX 2.3 and my sons brought it home the other night with a nasty engine vibration. I pulled the dipstick and found it 3 quarts low. There are no visible leaks (I have even tried UV dye) no smoke, and no oil contamination in the coolant. Where has the Oil gone?? Any Ideas? repair suggestions helpful but I am going to look at a v8 donor car today

I had a problem like that in mine. I would read the dipstick before I started it and it would read full. But then I would start it up and drive it and read it and it said it was almost empty. What it was, was that the oil was being pumped up into the cam cover. If you just give it time it will drain back down and will read normal. Just a thought, is you exhaust white?

what type and grade of oil are you using ? is the vibration only while driving, or do you get it if you free rev the engine with the car at a stand still ?
