Default Battery Is Too Tall???

The battery in my '87 LX is tall enough that when I close the hood it won't close. You have to slam the hood down anyway, so the first time this happened, I sprung the hood. I was able to get it straightened though. However, now the hood will close, but it comes in contact with the neg. battery terminal. I don't know, but I think that might be one of the things that is causing my drained battery. Anyway, I was wondering if anyone had sucessfully relocated their battery to the trunk/hatch? I would like to but my dad thinks it would be to risky being that close to the fuel tank. I think it would be ok being in the hatch, the tank is under the hatch. What do you guys think?

well in the hatch is much safer then shorting the battery against the hood.(your asking for trouble)

also if you get a relocation kit it'll come with a box so it will be safe to have.

Can you just get a battery that fits? It would be cheaper and easier.

or maybe some RTV?

Get the right sized battery before the thing explodes from arching across the terminals, or you slam the hood down on it and crack the casing and dump electrolite all over the place.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned duct tape.
