Hey how is it going. I have lurked on this website here and then and I decided to join. Also I need help.
I have a 1993 Mustang 2.3L with a very bad idle problem. I have had this mustang for about 7 years more or less. When I first got it it didn't have the bad idle problem. It did have an idle problem just not what it is now. It will sit high for a little while but when at a light it want to shut off so I have to keep my foot on the gas.
Years ago I did try to clean out the IAC with brake cleaner and it helped a little bit. Then I also cleaned the throttle body as well and this did help for a week or so. Then I just decided to replace the IAC. This helped out a lot.
Then I got another vehicle and sold my mustang because I didn't drive it. I regretted it afterwards and when the guy who bought decided to sell it he called me and I bought it back. Now its in worse condition than what I sold it to him in. But, my main concern is the idle.
Edit: Did find an older post about a code off of ebay eqqus or something. Any other ideas would be great thanks!
I did use the search feature on this site and someone had mention something about a code reader that can be bought at Auto Zone or Pep Boys for about $40, but they didn't mention the name brand. If anyone knows it could you please tell me? My check engine lights comes on. A lot.
I had the same problem with a 93 lx I bought my wife. It drove home fine when I bought it. Left it running when I got home for a while and checked it. It was fine. The next day I start to do a decent tune-up. Plugs, wires, fuel filter, clean aic, and so on. It started acting up after that. I have a thread about it still up. the answers I got were tried but all wrong. I decided to put a cold air intake on and plugged up the vacuum line to the air box and dropped the other one. My car took about 5 to 7 seconds till it ran perfect ( or closre to it ). I unplugged it and 5 to 7 seconds later its acting up. I plugged it back up and it's fine now. So try unplugging the vaccum line and see what that does.
Thanks. And dont worry about a long post the more info the better in my opinion.
Did you try it? I asked my mechanic friend after I found out plugging it made it run better and he had no idea why. He said plug it and have a nice day. So I don't know why that happened all I know is it worked for me. Keep me posted.
DAMN MAN!!!! It's doing it again after I gutted the air intake silencer. Now it's back to square 1. I ran it today with high octane gas though. Still idling rough.
I haven't tried plugging it yet. I am working nights currently so I haven't had the time. I will though when I am off.
The idling is something that while is a problem but in all honesty I have been dealing with it for a good while so a few more days will be okay.
One think you may want to try is something that I did a while back was change out the PCV valve. My car would shut off all the time at a light changed it out and it is no way near as bad as it was.
Also I had the oil changed and I tried having it flush out really good. The place I took it to added something called TX-7 I believe. Maybe the car run better. I think it is time to add some of that as well.
