Default 2.3 L4 N/A Drag times are horrible

i have a '91 mustang with a 2.3 L4 engine.
i went to the strip yesterday and i could not get it to run faster than an 18.41.
i have gutted the intake silencer
i have both cats intact, but no muffler.
i ran with no air filter.

what could i do to make my time better? i was shifting where the yellow and red lines meet.
also, anything i can do to reduce wheel spin? i aired my tires down to 19 PSI and was still getting spins off the line.

18.41 in the 1/4 ain't too shabby from a bone stock 2.3n/a.
Assuming you have an auto tranny of course.
I've only had the pleasure of 3 1/4 mile passes with a best of 18.86 @66mph. (Humidity was about 400%.)
Those cat. converters, are restricting your exhaust. I got rid of mine, added a header, dropped the exhaust to 2.5", hit the muffler, and squeezed it to 2.25" to the rear bumper. Noticable improvment, but no 1/4 times to share. However, i run 1/8th every weekend, and dropped at least .3 seconds and added 1+mph through the traps.
I shift at 4000rpms. because mine seems to start flattening out at about 4500. Feels like I'm pulling a boat.
About the spinning, get you some meat on the ground. Wider tires. Don't over tach it on the tree. I rev up to about 1900 rpms once staged, and jam it when the last yellow gets on.
This method seems to work for "ME". I just moved into 1st place in points for my class at my local track, lastnight.
Hope I helped you out a little.

its a manual, ill try getting rid of one of the cats and see if that helps even it out
and for the spins, ill try putting some fatter rubber on, im running 195/75 right now.
and i wasnt even revving prior to the lights, i just waited for the last yellow and then took off like i was taking off from a stoplight, just a little quicker

I'd try a drag radial if I were you. They hook like mad.
