Default Transmission doing strange things

My A4LD tranny is really worn out and needs rebuilding or replacing - even when I come to a complete stop it shifts about 10s later!
I get vibration at idle but goes away as RPMs increase - does this sound like the damper or all that is a result of the bad tranny?

Will a C4 with adapterplate work behind a normally aspirated 2.3l?
Is there a remanufactured A4LD transmission that can be purchased for my 91 notch 2.3l?

I would say start with a transmissoin fluid change and a new filter and see if it makes a difference. I don't know if they make an adapter plate for the C4 but I know that stinger performance makes one for the AOD and the plate costs around 330.00
