Exclamation Hesitation when driving up hill?

I have a 89 Mustang 2.3L NA with a 5 speed. When I drive up hill and have the gas pedal to the floor for a wile, when I start to back off the gas it looses power. It feels like something is sucking power from the engine, and I see black smoke coming from the exaust. It'll stop if I floor it again, but if I back off the gas it hesitates again.

Hey, agreed that that is the norm for any car, lol but if you do see black smoke coming out the rear it means that the motor is being starved for oxygen. The engine is running rich causing it to not completely burn all of the fuel.

Maybe try taking out that air intake silencer or going with a cold air intake, if you haven't already. Good luck.

this is a long shot. but has the car set up for awhile? if so you may need to either clean the injectors or buy new ones. my car set up for 2 years and when i took the injectors out i couldnt even see the spray port.

sorry never mind. i read wrong. ^^^ that wouldnt help if your not getting enough air in the motor.
