I have a 1990 2.3 L mustnag. in the last 6 months i have gone through 4 starters.....its getting annoying, the first 3 all went bad within a 3 week span. this 4th one i put on has lasted me a bit longer. every time one has gone out, it make the usual clicking noise when it goes bad, i have taken them to get tested and they always pass the electrical test but the never disengage. i find it hard to belive i have had 4 bad starters because of the store, so there must be some reason my car is eating them alive. this last one made a different sound, like a grinding sound, and then i lost all power to the car. i tried to jump start it and got power back but once i took the cables off there was nothing. the battery is okay, so i tried to take the starter off, and i stripped the top screw and gave up. once i tightened all the bolts and put the battery back in i decided to try staring the car, and it started just fine... so my question is whats going on? anyone have any ideas? thanks!

Where are you getting your starters from... have you tried a different brand?? are they new or rebuilds... maybe they are not rebuilding them correctly if they are not new or it could be the starter wiring... check al the wiring that is where I would start.. maybe your starter ground?

they are all rebuilds, and yes i get them from the same place because they are under warranty, and my ground wire is good

Try replacing the starter switch/solonoid. Also check to be sure that all of the connections to the starter switch are "clean,bright, and tight".
