Default Turbo Upgrade in the Stang

Does any one know if a turbo off a Toyota Supera will work on the 2.3 Mustang? The turbo model is a Toyota CT26.

It isn't really the correct size or design, but it COULD be made to work. Building all the brackets and fabricating all the tubing would be quite a chore, but no more difficult than all the other adaptations for custom turbo installs.

I would suggest reviewing what was done to the 2.3 Turbo that came in the SVO Mustangs first. That gives you a baseline to work upward from.

Done some checking. Flange is differant than a t-3 flange like the SVO/turbocoupe. So work there to do also. Exhaust housing rather large and will have fairly large turbo lag. Source Turboford.net.

Makes sense. Mismatches in the design is the reason lots of these swaps really don't make sense.

Some people bore and stroke engines to bring the displacement and or flow more in line with the intended use...

In the end, its all math.

Well-engineered combos feature tightly overlapping math. Flow numbers that mesh. With turbos, bigger is definitely not always better. RIGHT size for the application and the intended use (where the owner needs the power, and how much) means all.

Yep, the turbo 2.3's went into some of the Indy pace cars, and any number of Turbo GT's, though the later models in the SVO's were the most numerous.
