Smile 1992 Mustang LX Battery drains overnight even with all fuses pulled.

So I've been having trouble with my 1992 Mustang LX hatchback. Battery gets completely drained within being off for 30min after a full charge. It drains COMPLETELY, the car doesn't even make the token "ding" when the key is turned to accessory.

What I have tried / done:

  • Got a new battery, the old one was 4-5years old.
  • Checked the drain with the car running and it all appears normal.
  • Checked the drain with the car off and it spikes.
  • Fully charged the battery, disconnected all fuses for electrical components and the next morning the battery was sucked dry again.
I'm really hoping I don't have a short somewhere, since it would probably take forever to track down. My dad thinks it might be the Voltage Regulator or the Starter Motor Relay/Solenoid. However, I have no disposable income at the moment so I cant just replace everything randomly.

Anybody have this happen to them before?

Thanks in advance.

do a parasitic draw test. it should tell you where your problem is. also do you have any aftermarket amps or subs? or anything aftermarket hooked up?

I had an aftermarket stereo installed but the first thing I did when the problem showed up was disconnect everything to be sure it wasnt the stereo.

I tried the drain tests and it was inconclusive. Even with no fuses in the car and all lights/doors double checked to make sure nothing is on, it still drains within 30min.

I hope this doesnt mean it's just some random short somewhere draining the battery. Because it would take forever to inspect the entire wire harness of the car. :\
