Exclamation Have an A/C Question

Okay here it is I know the clutch works because I've jumped the wires on the low pressure switch and It started spinning. I've talked to a mechanic and he said its low on freon and that he could not help me. It's an r-12 system and I've fond out that r-12 is illegal to buy without certification. I don't have the money right now to do the whole conversion thing so what I need to know is where can I go to get It filled back up for now, I don't know of any a/c shops around me.

Can Napa or Some auto parts store do it.

Also I bought the car from a Private owner so I have no warranty's.

It is cheaper to convert to R-134A than to find a shop that will fill an R-12 system.

All I did when I converted mine was change the dryer, flush the entire system, change the oil in the compressor, pulled vacuum, checked for leaks, and charged it with R-134A after I fixed a couple of minor leaks. Been running fine and ice cold ever since and I did it back in '04 or '05

ya you can buy the conversion kits for a lil over 20 bucks at walmart. I just did my 88 turbo coupe last week, worked great.
Its fairly easy to do. You just need to make sure you know which is the high and low side.

Ok posting this as an up date. Got it converted, but still did not work. Looked on this forum for answers and indeed I got them. It was the low pressure switch so I replaced it and now it is working. Just goes to prove allfordmustangs.com is the best in the world.thanks
