Default Doing a 2.3 build Need Direction.

I have a 78 Mustang 2 with a 2.3 in it, it has 110k on it. I am going to technical school and it turns out the motor we rebuild in class is the ford 2.3 so my instructors have no problem letting me do it in there, which is good because according to the ford book you need a special tool for swapping the cam. I have a little experience building push rod v8's but have never done a OHC motor. I would like to wake it up a little when I take it apart. I was thinking go to 9:1 compression and possibly over bore it 20 or 30, bigger valves for more port velocity, port match the intake, cam, header, and rejet the carb, and recurve the distributor. The only problem I am having is on dektop dyno I cant break 140hp, and higher compression actually dropped my hp and torque that made no sense. Are these upgrades a good idea? Whats a good combo you guys have done? Everytime I red a 2.3 N/A thread its like 3 guys tryin to help and 100 saying go turbo or theres a a million 5.0s in the junk yard buy one for $150 cuz theres so many junk yards around selling them that cheap... RIGHT. But anyway Id really appreciate some direction with the build, especially from someone whose done it before. Its a daily driver that I just want to perform a little more then it was because it was kind of a dog.

You can do one of two things. Add a turbo but the engine will need forged slugs. Or increase the compression to at least 10.5 to 1. Either way you need a slug change unless your present slugs are forged. So i would up for a turbo. Best bang for your buck
