Default 1990 Mustang 2.3 MAP to MAF

Hello all, I'm new to this forum but did read various threads for several hours prior to posting this thread.

Car: 1990 2.3/5-Speed/Hatchback

Condition: Cracked head

What I want to do: I want to convert this MAP car to EFI so future performance mods will be easier and HP will be increased.

Experience: I have converted 1995 MAP F150 5.0 to MAF using FMS kit with no issues. I have built hotrod Ford 300 sixes, 5.0 Ford street racers and many other projects over the last 25 years.

Assumptions: I will need the ECU, MAF and harness from a MAF 2.3.

Questions:
A) Will this work with a NON-DIS ignition system?
B) Is there and existing thread that covers this conversion from start to finish?
C) Will I also need to change the injectors to match the ECU/MAF combination?
D) Did any NON-DIS and NON-TURBO 2.3 come with a MAF system?
E) IF the DIS is needed, will the sensors from a specific donor vehicle be direct bolt on parts or will there be modifications needed?

Thanks to all that assit in advance.

You're gonna need one of the ECU's out of a Dual Plug DIS car. The TFI ignition setup and the DIS setup are wired very similar. I've got a drawing that shows how to use DIS on a single plug setup. A sharp person can see what's going on and get the information needed to graft the two together.

That brings up another point. It'll probably be best to grab the engine bay harness out of a 91-93 car. It'll give you the MAF and BAP connectors plus a couple of other handy goodies.

I think the injector sizes for the Speed Density and the Mass Air 2.3's were the same size.

There were no factory mass air 2.3's that were not DIS. Even the EFI turbo cars used a vane meter.

I'm not sure what you're expecting for a power increase. The difference between the SD and MA hp ratings was not entirely attributed to the mass air system. The dual plugs, DIS, cylinder head design, and last and probably least, roller camshaft.

That's all I can think of off the top of my head. If I think of anything else I'll post back.

After some checking I found a used 106K 1993 2.3 that needs some love for $850.00. It runs okay down the road but has idle issues. The owners were deaf and must not have heard the MASSIVE vacuum leak I heard. The interior is trashed so I may take the good interior from the 1990 and transfer it over. I did like the 15" alloys that came on the 1993. I was considering the engine swap but thought after It was all over the interior swap would be about the same effort AND not confuse a mechanic later in life when they lifted the hood. The dual plug head looks interesting. The current owner did not know how to route plug wires very well and they are leaning on the injectors and injector harness. The motor did not smoke and the AT will be better for my wife in traffic. This is to be a nice commuter car for her instead of her driving my 2005 GTO and eating loads of fuel. I'll post pictures as the job progresses. This will leave the 1990 chassis left over for another project, perhaps some road racing if I put the Ranger drivetrain under it!

I think you've found an easier way.

Hmmm now about that '90 carcass.

That inexpensive road race car is getting closer!
