The info on the Flemworld web site is the best I have found as far as swapping a Turbo Coupe engine into the 2.3L Mustang. The wiring diagrams, vacuum diagrams, and other info are very complete and easy to follow. This write up has some good info and the pictures are helpful too:

Turbo Swap How To--Step by Step Instructions

We decided on the Turbo Coupe motor swap instead of a 5.0 because of the fuel economy of the 2.3. With the car being my son's daily driver fuel economy is a priority. Not to mention the 2.3L turbo can make significant HP/TQ when set up correctly. And the durability of the 2.3L is a plus. I also like the lighter weight of the 2.3 engine.

+1 on Flemworld! Out of all the sites on the internet, Flemworld wins hands down! It's written in plain english, very easy to understand and covers wiring for the EGR and premium fuel switch, also!

I have been told that Pin 49, orange wire, needs to be grounded to the turbo compressor housing in order for the O2 sensor to work correctly. I do not see that mentioned on any write ups out there. I do see stock '88 Mustang 2.3L wiring diagrams with that orange wire as an O2 sensor ground but I do not see that wire under the hood of my car. Do I need to run a new wire from Pin 49 to the compressor housing or is that wire in my stock harness some where already?

This is correct, and yes you do. I don't know if you presently have anything going to PIN 49.
Also, it is best to shield that wire, as it is located around HOT stuff

Thanks, when I pull the kick panel I'll check Pin 49 and see if anything is there or not.

Wonder why no one ever mentions this is any of the write ups out there? I have been told the engine won't run quite right without the ground wire in place so you would think the swap write ups would advise to hood it up?

Default 88 tbird engine

was just bored and was reading...i see you are putting a turbo from an auto into a stick,,,

i owned an 88 tbird and found they have 2 different setups on the eaton....their should be a tag on the turbro...the number will end with an a for auto and a b for stick...their is a difference in boost.. the auto is set lower.....mine was running full boost..i had put a vacuum tee in the line instead of dial a boost,,,

not sure how high they go but lets say it pegged the guage as soon as you hit the gas no lag at all..it ran like this for its long life of 160k before bottom blew,,,good luck with swap..

The 88 coupe comes with brown top injectors. 35-38 lbs. The swap is a piece of cake . We do several of these and they are a great setup. The logic to use a 5.0 is personal choice. But the TC engineis only 20 HP less than a 5.0 and can be rebuilt much cheaper. You can use your stock pump oh a stock TC motor. But you will need a 225 if you UP the ponies. Best bet is to make shure you get the LA 3 computer. And VAM. The original cooler is marginal at best. I would spring for a front mount. You dont heed the hood. Hope this helps TOM

Great swap the TC uses a set of brown top injectors 35-38 lbs. Totally fine to 260 ponies. We have done several of these swaps in our shop. The engine is only 10 HP lower than a stock 5.0. But it is much cheaper to rebuild. My 2.3 T 90 mustang is a rocket. The swap is a piece of cake and makes a nice driver. Ditch the factory IC for a front mount.
