Default Odd electrical issue

'79 Turbo running at 1200 RPM, pull the positive cable off of the battery. Rev's increase by about 500 RPM, the Tach swings up to 6k, the wipers go on high even though the switch is in the off position. When I put the positive cable back on the battery, everything goes back to normal. Only thing done to the car is a new voltage regulator. Any ideas?
Thanks

Never remove the battery cables on a running car. You can smoke all your electronic components. Voltage spikes go through the moon when you do that. Try setting minimum idle procedure to controll your idle problem.
