Question 84 svo turbo recall

Does any one know any details about that recall they had in 85 for the 84 svo. I just would like to know what turbo ford used in place for the bad ones?

i heard people were complaining of the turbo lag so they replaced them with ihi's. but i've never seen a 85 with an ihi.

According to the Ford website there is not a recall for anything turbocharger related on any vehicles other than heavy duty trucks.
Let me ask a friend who has owned his 84 SVO since new.

Well, I got your answer. There was no recall on the turbo for the SVO. Failed units were replaced with T3 units like factory issue.

But he also added that there was a Service Bulletin recommending that the oil cooled unit be replaced with the oil/water cooled units (still a T3). It was only a "recommendation" and not a required executable.

Thanks for the info, i still have doubts about that recall though, because the guy who i got the car from has been a fleet manager for a ford dealer where he bought the car from back in 83 and he mentioned that the turbo would boost up more than 20psi. and this was back in late 85 and he insists that it was a recall. I dont really care much about that recall but i would like to know excatly what kind of turbo is in my car, last time i took a look at the turbo i noticed it had a little orage or red tag on it but i couldnt get a better look at the numbers or letters on this tag. Can any one help me i know close to nothing on turbos.

I will say that the person I asked has owned his SVO since new, has been interviewed by a few magazines about SVOs, will have his car (modded 300+HP) featured in the September issue of MM&F.
He is basically the world's expert of the SVO and taught at the Bondurant Driving School as well.
