Default Hard starting with low fuel pressure

I have an 88 2.3 NA that does not want to start, and once it does, it lacks alot of power. I suspect fuel problems because I can hear my pump making a very loud noise the entire time its on, almost as if it is always priming?
Anyways, I hooked up a fuel pressure tester and here are my resluts:
Key on: 40 psi
When trying to start: 40 drops quickly to almost zero
Idles: 40 psi
Reving (no load): 32-40 psi

After I turn the key off, the pressure drops to zero almost immediately.

I was thinking maybe a leaking injector?? How do i test that?

Any other ideas of what it may be and how to check would be appreciated

Fuel pressure dropping off will be the result of 3 things (normally):

1. Massively leaking injector. Just key on engine off a few times and pull the plugs. If an injector is leaking that bad, you will see copious amount of fuel.

2. Faulty Fuel Pressure Regulator.

3. Fuel pump check valve pooped or hose from fuel pump to bracket hard line is cracked. I am guesing the hose myself because of the lack of power issue. Either way you have to drop the tank.

Pull the tank inspect for a cloged sock or pump strainer. Then check the line from the pump to the tank adapter they have a nasty habit of splitting. I change tuns of them. By the way if the hose is cracked it should be replaced with a special hose. Dont use store bought EFI hose. If the pump has high milage replace it. Pumps should not be run for more than 75,000 miles. Your pump is noizy as you pointed out so i would replace it any way cheap insurance. Tom

Thanks Tom, I just got back from a little vacation and will hopefully get to work on it this weekend. But I do have a question about the hose I need to replace; Can i buy the hose from napa or autozone as the "pump to tank adapter" or is this a part I will have to order from Ford? I looked on autozone.com but can't seem to find that part. Sorry for asking so many questions, I just want to have all the parts to do the job.
