Default Donor car for 1991 Mustang LX 2.3L swap.

Hi,
I have a real conundrum today and I am just making up my mind!

My sister gave me this poorly running 91 mustang LX 2.3L 3 weeks ago, I fixed it all mostly and now it runs great!

My dad helps all us kids out when we get our first cars going and stuff so he gave me a 99 Infinity G20T he said he could probably get around 3-4 grand trade in value on it.

So he left me with a choice, take the Infinity or take the cash.

I was debating taking the cash, buying a donor car and swaping out the engines! I had so much fun replacing spark plugs and coils and ignition modules last week I need to do more HAHA!

Can somone tell me roughly how much it would cost to swap out the 2.3L N/A automatic for a 5L Manual or something else maybe?

Just a basic swap, maybe I'll do some more work on it eventually.

Thanks in advance.

I would take the car and keep the stang as well if possible. THen you can slowly plan and perform any upgrades on the Mustang at your own pace since any major drivetrain swapping is gonna take alot of work, patience and tools that you may not have now.

Just my $.02

B1 is right. That way when all is set in stone down the road, it will give you time to replace parts in the 5L and make it a rebuilt go getter.

You need time, patience, tools, shop, knowledge, and money. All of these can be accomplished over time, and give you something to look forward to rather than piss yourself off halfway through the project.

Cool swap

I agree take the car for now and keep the 91 and build your perfect pony by not having to rush

If the infinity is worth 3-4 grand you could sell both and be very close to just buying a 5.0 car without having to do the swap. You can get a decent 5.0lx for 5 grand easy.

If you really want a 5.0 Mustang, sell both cars you have now and go buy a decent factory 5.0 car. The swap is a bit more complicated than just coils and spark plugs. I guarantee, you'll be without a car for less time if you go buy a 5.0 with your pooled money than you would be if you tried to pull off a swap.

Ah, that is a good idea! I think I will keep both indeed! I debated doing this actually, you just helped me make up my mind. I could sell both and buy a 5.0 but I've been having alot of fun getting the 2.3L up to speed and I have been thinking about a major project that would be fun.
I guess if I kept both it would give me more time to wait for a good deal on a donor car and probably save me alot of money in the long run too.

I like your ideas about building a perfect stang too rather than just rush the job since I wouldnt have a second car to get around with. & I would have the infinity for good milage when I go on road trips.

Thanks for the help deciding, im most certain this is what I will do.

Cheers.

Here's a rule I learned the hard way a long time ago.

"Never make a toy out of your daily driver and never make a daily driver out of your toy"

Good call. Things will get expensive fast if you do.
