Does anyone have a suggestion to cure a slipping transmission. I have a 1993 Mustang, Auto Conv with 2.3. It slips a little in second and at times a significant slip in 3rd. It seems to slip less if your driving it aggressively. Any suggestions of what to look? richeyb
fluid level. fluid color (reddish shade). switch fluid. put in some transmission stop slip. i used some in my tranny, didnt do anything (it was slipping so bad) but its worth a shot, if none of that works
Try Honey Tranny or Lucas. I recommend Lucas for your tranny and oil. Thickens it up for hot, hard runs. Not to good for cold areas. If your running 10w30 use more than you would if you ran 20w50.
Rebuild it or replace it with a used unit. There is no quick fix or any type of fluid or conditioner that you can buy that will cure it
Yea, rebuild or replace it. My tranny in my 92 2.3L Auto was slipping; got pretty bad.
Was going to get a new one from Ford, my mechanic told me it would be $1,200 but apparently Ford put in the wrong VIN #, I was then quoted $2,000 for a new Auto Tranny from Ford (high altitude transmission was the reason - if there is such a thing lol)
Anyway, I had mine rebuilt by a local shop in the OC, it ain't cheap, $1,600 for a complete rebuild.

Well actually try it when you have a slip kid and you might believe. Let me guess, another "Marketing Scam" right? What it does is it uses non-solvent formulas that stops slip, hesitation and rough shifting in worn transmissions and completely eliminates most seal leaks. What you should do is replace the fluid and filter and use the Lucas tranny slip. It's alot cheaper than the other options people are giving you. I would guarantee that it would stop that little slip. I have done it to 3 of my cars. When I got my stang it would miss in second most of the time. I didn't even use the whole bottle and it's gone. But go ahead and have it rebuilt for more than what you paid for the car itself. Atleast if you don't do the lucas, buy a tranny from the junk yard or craigslist. It's alot cheaper. Normally around $100 and easy to replace yourself.
Think about it.

You see, I actually repair my cars. I don't put a band aid on it and hope everything will work right. I do not condone band aid fixes like adding some ridiculous fluid that does nothing since no magic fluid will fix a transmission slip.
I also did suggest getting a used transmission.
What cracks me up the most, you won't buy a rebuilt transmission that costs more than your car, yet you'll buy a stereo that costs 10 times as much as your car.

I spent $800 on my car, about $600 fixing it up and only $200 on my system. WHAT?!?! Yes I said $200. So where do you get your figures from jr? It's nice to know you spent that much on rebuilding your tranny. Want a cookie? Why don't you try fixing it yourself or anything yourself? I do all my own work kid. So I learn from experience and hands on work with an ASE certified mechanic. You just quote what you hear and read. Have a nice day.

LOL adding the "magic fluid" to "fix" a slipping tranny sure sounds like you have learned quite a bit with that certificate.
Damn, I love this sight, its just full of bashing each other lol
Anyway, the suggestions for a slipping tranny are present; fluid, rebuild, new or used.
Depends on how much you are willing to spend and how long you want that tranny to last. If you are thinking about upgrading it to a T5, I would suggest using the fluid as a temp fix until you get the funds together for the T5 swap, or a rebuild or new/used tranny if you are using it just as a daily driver.
O and please understand; I'm no mechanic, I'm 22 and work in the film business.
However, that was my backup plan, if I couldn't get into the Hollywood scene I would go into porno lol I'm currently working for a trailer house (we did the Transformers 2 Super Bowl Teaser as well as all the other trailers & tv commericals, amongst other big films).

Look. My suggestion was to change the filter and fluid. Add some lucas to it when you add the fluid. Whats wrong with that? Have any of you REALLY tried it? If it doesn't work then i'll stop coming to this site and giving my $.02. How about that. I'm guaranteeing the guy it'll work from my own experience with my own slipping transmissions. But go ahead and spend, spend, spend. Yeah, I have $1200 in my change pocket right here. Lets spend it. In my line of work, we love people like you. And i'm not ASE certified. I just learn from one. I was a mechanic but I do woodwork now, kitchen cabinets, hurricane proof doors and windows, entertainment centers, etc.
