Default Tranny questions

I have a 90 2.3 liter 5 speed and i am trying to do a turbo set up on it and i was curious if my current transmission would be able to handle my motor if i turbo charged it. Its already been rebuilt once and has 190,xxx miles on it so lets just say it "tired" lol if i had it rubuilt again would i be ok?

The tranny is a world class and can handle a turbo motor. The tranny is rated at app 280 lbs of torque. It will be fine .

Yes the regular 2.3 tranny can handle the torque of a turbo. When was the last time you did the rebuild (how many miles since rebuild)? If it shifts smoothly and doesn't come out of gear then it will not need a rebuild. If you really want you can put new oil in it you can but it normally isn't needed.

It has been rebuilt once that i know of... it grinds gears in the morning when its cold but then stops after about 5 minutes of driving. The only other thing i have been battling with is it keeps making a rattling sound when the clutch is out and your just sitting in nutral, you push the clutch in, it goes away, let it out it comes back. You can hear it faintly while driving too. This problem gets worse the hotter it gets. Thanks for all the help fellas

The noise you hear when the clutch is out is the throwout bearing. It's probably worn out.

Well, not really so much hard to replace as they are hard to get at since you will need to take out the driveshaft, transmission and bellhousing. The reason they probably don't do that would be because you will be spending 10x more dollars on labour than the part itself which shouldn't cost more than $30.

While you are in there you should put in a new clutch if it hasn't been replaced in a while, a new pilot bearing and at least get the pressure plate and flywheel resurfaced. And the pressure plate is recommended that you replace since the fingers may be worn (could that be another cause for the chattering?).
