If you don't buy it as a kit with followers and springs, then I'd talk to the manufacturer and find out what they recommend for springs. I wouldn't put a performance cam in a worn out, stock engine without changing valve springs, keepers, and retainers. (and valve seals while I was in there).
There's some work to be done regarding valvetrain geometry, most of which is getting the spring installed height right and making sure the follower rides the valve tip properly.
If you're serious about this and really want to do it right, you'll want to degree the cam.
If it's a new slider cam you MUST use new followers. This is not an optional step.
Roller followers by design are much more forgiving so if its a roller cam you're buying, you can keep the followers you have as long as they're in good shape.
So by now I'm pretty sure you're aware that this ain't no "bolt on and go" deal. |
