Default Starting Problems with 1989 LXI 4 Cylinder Automatic

I have an 89 LXI with the 4 cyl, and an AOD transmission. It was running fine until a few days ago, when I couldn't start it. I replaced the ignition switch and solenoid, and still it won't start. Jumping the solenoid will crank the engine, but it won't start. Compression in the cylinders. I was told by another person the problem may be due to the AOD lock switch not being properly set.

How would an AOD lock switch impact starting?

Symptoms: Won't crank when key is turned to start. Limited electircal. Door chime is very faint. Gas is ¾ full.

Can someone please help????

Thank you.

I'm having a similar issue; I can hear starter attempting to work however the engine won't crank over, thought it was my alarm in the anti-carjacking mode; turns out the battery is out of juice and the alternator is done.

Had both battery and alt tested at Autozone yesterday, and when the alt test begin, my engine stuttered and then shut off. Imma take the bat and alt out and have them tested seperately.

So my guess is test alt and battery.

Thanks for the input. I still can't start the car. Replaced ignition switch, solenoid, neutral safety switch, all fuses are good, and yes - gas is in the tank. When I jump the solenoid, the car will crank, but not start (will not crank from turning the ignition key). Also noticed that all dash lights and radio do not come on. Headlights and interior lights work. Alternator is good, and battery tests as fully charged and operating

In the car, I have 4 rocker switches on the center consol – 1 for the electric radiator fan, 2 for the transmission overdrive, and one for an extra lighter plug (wired by former owner).

Can anyone provide further insight into the problem, before I have to have it towed to the shop?

Thanks.
