Default 2.3 Dual plug Heads

Just went to the machine shop and got some really bad news
Head has 2 serious cracks under the valves

Now what are my options - (Not going turbo) - Need to find a 8plug 2.3 head

I also have another 2.3l but that has a dizzy setup - could I get that engine to work in my 1991 2.3l DIS - (probably would have to go carburated on that one!

All advice welcomed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Same problem a couple of years ago. Go find another head in the junkyard, bolt it on and go.

Are the cracks in the exhaust valve seat? Are they such that the machine work to install hardened seats won't get rid of them?

The head may be saved the way chandler explained it. Sometimes the exhaust seats will clean up with an insert seat?? I am shure the shop may be able to fix yours if its not to bad. Most heads i see are cracked. The 2.3 t heads normally crack in the exhaust seat area. Start looking around. I have a fiew single plug heads but no duelies. Start looking for a head asap. Sorry TOM .

I've got the head I mentioned before, but it too is cracked in three different exhaust seats. All of them look like a seat job (or going to bigger valves) will get rid of the cracks.

Everyone knows about Mustangs and Rangers, but for some reason, overlook Mazda B2300's and B2500's. Same engine. 2000 and 2200 have Mazda motors so they won't help you any.

Happy hunting

100% correct chandler. The bigger exhaust valve seat insert usually works.

My stepdad has a 98 Ranger and its not a DOHC head. 91-3 Mustangs have them.
