it goes in the oil pan. keeps the oil from hitting the crank so the crank shaft doesn't have to work as hard to make the power. i would suspect that it would help in any car. in my opinion. hope that helps

Yes they used my rod design to fixed the original piston scirt problem with the 2.3 back in 1974. I designed the oil squirt holes in the rods. I worked with ford on this problem and they used my design. Ford wanted to scrap the 2.3 because of the oil problem. I had to run a 2.3 on the dyne for two weeks at 4000 rpm non stop to proove the mod worked. And it DID and here we are now.
Thanks 4220 but you guys will some day replace us old DUDES. Then you will do all this stuff in the coming years. I will give you an example. Carbs GONE POINTS GONE SOLID LIFTERS ALMOST GONE. TIMING AN ENGINE GONE. You guys will be into direct injection. 6 speed autos carbon fiber clutches low tire indication and SO ON. You will do it and be good at it. Tom JR does all the programming and tuning. I am bad at computers the future is going to be diesel technoligy and computers. You young guys have minds like a sponge. You are so eager for knowledge you suck it up. I totally admire that and love the fact that you also love cars as i do. Its so refreshing that you young guys love to do the sme things i did as a young man. The difference is you guys share info. Back in the day of the big ones like BILL JENKINS and NUNZI ROMANO the info was not passed around and that was a shame. Its always good to pass on info. Whether its wrong or right your hearts are in the right place. I really mean that Thanks TOM
Carbs, points, and a weekly valve adjustments. Ahhhh the good ol' days. Back when feeler gauges were used for more than just checking spark plug gaps.
Tom I really really want to play with direct injection on a 2.3. I think the dual plug head would be a cheap way to experiment. Use the intake side spark plug holes for an injection point. What I don't know is how combustion chamber shape (specifically quench area) plays into the performance of a direct injection system. It seems to me like the mix would be too wet. Would I just be squirting fuel in the wind so to speak? If I ever get time to sit down and do some homework on this I'll either come up with something that works or throw money at another black hole. Won't be the first or last time for either outcome.
Chandler you are the greatest. I have thought about the same thing hundreds of time. You must have read my mind. I was thinking about the second plug hole for the injector. Problem is FUEL preasure. The new gm DIS is the preasure. Rumor has it its like 20,000 lbs? Not totally shure but the number is close. Like i said before. In 47 years of building machines i knew you had vision. AND I WAS DAM RIGHT. Keep thinking you are more tallented than you think. In 47 years doing this i can tell the diference. Tom Renzo
Hay chandler one other thing. The feeler gauge makes a great butter spreader. You know the big feeler gauges. Right the starter button on the center of the fire wall to bump the starter to adjust the VALVES. Brings back good memories.
Thanks for the compliment, and I mean that from the bottom of my ego.
Actually Tom, in one of my less proud moments, I've used them to spread J.B. Weld in places I couldn't reach. And I still have my hand-held starter switch. I use it for compression tests on my cars and my outboard.
20,000 psi? That's enough compression to detonate.
I can't imagine it being that high. It takes horsepower to drive a pump like that. Think about the horsepower used to drive your pressure washer. Ever seen a 5 hp 12VDC electric motor that would fit in a fuel tank, or even tucked under a chassis somewhere?
Can you imagine the plumbing?? We're way beyond Aeroquip and even Swagelok.

thanks TOM. as i have said before i love to be around car and i've been dealing with them pretty much my whole life. and im getting ready to go to college for it in about a year. im going to be venturing into the world of high performance motors so i will probably be taking a step back into time with Carbs, valve lash and so on. but ill still have the knowledge of this newer stuff as you said TPMS and what not. are there even going to be anymore straight shift cars? it seems like they are all heading to automatic with the semi auto choices. (BOO!!!!) see much like you im a old school person i would rather see carbs than injectors. i have a friend that drags old chevells, camaro's, & s-10's. but heres the unique one.... have you ever seen a 1980's mazda truck with a 383 stroker motor in it that'll run 9's? haha.

Hay 4220 those manual 6 speeders will always be around. (i think) Autos are getting much better. I just did a cash for clunkers deal at the saturn dealer today and bought a brand new saturn. I think its basically a maliboo. It has a 6 speed AUTO. Even if the manual trannys are gone the autos have a good advantage. They dont miss gears. I ran in the old days an A/mp auto chivell and did very good with an auto. The new camaro has an awsum 6 speed auto. Just the changing times. The advantage you will have is you are going to school and you will be able to build your own cars. The way you want them. By the way good luck on your automotive schooling. Are you going to YO TECH.
