Anything else? I'm getting one before or at least by tax season. I'm only going to run like 5 psi of boost until I can get a bottom half of a 2.3 turbo or forged pistons put in. My boy said it should almost keep up with a 5.0. Is he right? All your help is appreciated.
If I am right, the turbo Mustangs ran 12-14lbs and they could give a stock 5.0 a run... But 5 probably won't do it... Just beat all of those hondas that you couldn't before and wait for the rest of the turbo parts before you take anything else on, lol
Lets not get crazy 90 my honda D16 V TECH Turbo dynowed at 416 WHP. Dont take HONDAS lightly you may get fooled .The TC auto ran 10-12 lbs app the 5 speeder ran 15-16 lbs APP. The early turbo coupes did not run a cooler. I am going out on a limb here and going to say this. At 5-6 lbs the na motor may live to see tomorrow. The problem is how many tomorrows. Conservitive timing high test gas always. Increased cooling system capacity and watter injection. Lots of watter injection . And 5 lbs of boost. At 5 lbs of boost you will gain APP 30 HP. The SVO was rated at 215 HP the 5.0 was rated at 220HP. The difference is the turbo will produce more torque at a lower RPM.
5-7 psi as long as everything else is in good shape. Here's the kicker... If something happens and boost creeps up, or it runs a little hot, or you get some bad gas, you're walkin' home.
Here's my plan. My car is at home, with the stock dual plug motor still in it. I can drive it when I want, or move it if I need to. On the stand, is my '88 Turbo block waiting for assembly. I just got the rings a couple of weeks ago, now I need to pick up a gasket set. Bottom line, I'm waiting until I get all the goodies together and do it all at once. Think of it like this, how much fun is it going to be when you finally get a motor together that's built for the turbo, and you hang the turbo you've been playing with on the other motor for however long, and a week or two after its on the road, the turbo takes a dump? Not so much fun.

No, no... You heard me wrong Tommy, I do realize that Honda makes some sick engines and that you can play with them to get them to be really mean, but all I was saying is that the honda civic that was just a little bit faster than him, will now be eating your dirt. I was just trying to say that he isn't going to keep up with the 5.0 because the gains obviously aren't gonna be that much.
Also, did I hear that right: 2.3 Turbos make more torque at lower RPM? That is a pleasant and very interesting factoid because I would have thought it was the other way around...:grin green
90 no worrys just kidding around wit YA. I knew what you meant. One thing is true though. Some of those ricers are dam fast. I came up against many in my life. I ran a 2.2 delso turbo. With my 2.3 stang. I pulled him out of the hole by 2 cars. and only climed past him by another car at the end of 1320. That honda was fast. my 2.3 is 400+ on ponies. The reason turbo engines make so much more power is its torque capability. If you ever drive a turbo or supercharged car you can feel the kick in your pants when boost comes in. That is the torque coming in. Remember figure it this way. An SVO is rated at 215 HP without the turbo its around 100 HP NA. The whole turbo thing is get it to boost as low in the rpm band as possible. (spool time) We stay up at night trying to lower tnat number. Faster spool faster HP & TORQUE. You are right he will start blowing away more ricers. I was just messing with YA. But i have come up against many a fast HONDA. Remember i live in a small town along with tom JR. Every yahoo in the 5 surrounding towns want to beat my cars. Its like a vandetta to beat a car built by DRCE. Be good and the weekend is comming DUDE. Thanks
Yes the 85 indeed was 205 HP Sorry for the misprint. Bob did reduce the hp to 200 in 86. The reason ford thought the octane in the gas would drop further in the on going years. The 41C option claimed 215 hp. Anyway i was only off by 10 ponies. actual HP listed at rpm 205 at 5000 RPM 215 at 5600 rpm red line. and 248 ftlbs of torque at 3000 rpm. That is 5 hp more than the 5.0 of the same year. The GT was rated at 225. the following year at 300 ft lbs. Bob did an excellent job of tubing the 2.3 for the SVO. TOM
I'm surprised someone hasn't mentioned it yet. SSAutoChrome is bad news! Do a search on Turboford or NATO or SVOCA. Their turbos are chinese junk! The housings are actually glued together! Yes, that's right........GLUED together! The impeller tolerances are huge. Their headers tend to crack sooner than later. I don't know about their I/C's but considering the quality of the rest of their parts, I'd look elsewhere for an I/C. Their track record is well documented all over the internet. Sorry to rain on your parade. Just trying to keep you from dumping a bunch of $$$ into parts that won't last long at all.
