Smile 1990 2.3 New Intake Semi-Custom Pics

So i got bored since my girlfriend is in richmond and im in Nova and i made a new intake.

So i got some 2.5'' OD Aluminum Pipe and some silicone coupling and t-bolt clamps (which you could probably use radiator hose and a similar cheaper clamp) and cut and fitted until it was just right. by just right meaning i squeezed it in there and it works lol.

Eliminating the stock plastic elbow and the misunderstood air baffle.

Eyeballed, Cut, Cleaned, Washed, Dried
http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j194/840607/cut.jpg

Installed, Clamped down, Airbox in stock location
http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j1.../installed.jpg

Took it for a test run. It feels stronger and pulls alittle bit stronger for a 2.3 lol it feels good in the mid range rpms other than that it just sounds better. Hopefully this equates to better mpg. Thatd be great.

Now to tackle my exhaust. Need a new muffler im pretty sure its got a hole in it or its just hung really bad and makes lots of noise. (it turns head which is a bad thing lol) ill post a pic of that later. The previous owner was a regualr mister fix it DiYer.

Almost forgot From Air box to tb:
Removed air silencer
K&N Air Filter
Semi-Custom Intake
TB

Those are my only "mods" so far
Laterrrrrrr

I thought you meant the actual intake like the pics below.

Nice little mod 88. Did you put the bend in the tubing?? That is what its all about cheap and dirty and it works great. Good job looks real good. Ok here is the story On the baffle . Its part of the silencer that is required by federal law for NOIZE. I dont understand it either. But that is what its fore. It also restricts the air flow and smoothes out the reversion pulses on the incomming air stream. God only knows why. We have picked up a fiew ponies by eliminating it. Once again NICE JOB looks professional and clean. TOM

Correction i have a 1993.

Tom, I wanted it to look semi-good and not just cobbled together. so i got the pipe bent and bought silicone couplers. but it was still cheap =D

Well since its N/A there isnt much more i can do madmike.(aside from a cone) dont give it/me too much credit.

Kurt, I dunno what you mean by semi custom pics lol but since i only took care of the elbow and didnt do anything with the airbox,tb, or upper/lower...its only semi-custom. Sarcasm

Check out this CUSTOM DIY exhaust hanger the previous owner rigged up...

(Turn your head and look sorry lol)
Im not really sure what it is. But thats how my muffler is hanging. It makes a hell of a racket.

Looks pretty sweet... Yeah, next step is the cone filter in the fender

If that hanger makes a lot of noise then you gotta get rid of it man. On the mufflers there is normally a bracket where you can attach a hanger and then there is also on on the frame I believe and they both just screw in. It would probably work a heck of alot better... Maybe the muffler doesn't have one of those hangers as it may be aftermarket???

I'm thinking of doing what you did with the air intake and the filter going in the fender. Nice job.
The 5.0 fuel pump was only to replace the pump I thought was bad. That'll never gain you HP. It was the only one I had to replace the old one with at the time. No mpg change though.
The stang moves pretty well for a 2.3l Mustang. I have some fine tuning to do to finish it off, but i'm satisfied now that it's running a little faster than normal. Last upgrade is the gears. Either 3:73 or 4:10. I can get 3:73 into a 7.5 rearend, but if I go 4:10 I have to switch to a 8.8. Now i'm on the front end, ball joints.

Then why am I being told to upgrade the gears to 3:73? If they are 3:73 then my best bet is a 8.8 rearend and 4:10 gears to get it off the line quicker.

Sorry man. I'm not trying to jump on you. I'm just wanting the right set of gears to give me more off the line.

93 pull the cover count the teeth then devide the pinion into the ring prersto ratio. Or just read the TAG on the cover it should tell you the ratio.
