Question Difference Between lx and gt Coil Springs...

Hey,

(I am still talking about my suspension issues, but I am pretty sure everybody stopped reading my other thread a few days ago, so I will make seperate threads for each of my questions from here on out in hopes that I will get more hits)

Vehicle: 1990 2.3L lx coupe

So I have tried ordering new springs but all of the autoparts stores here for the last couple of days and no one sells springs for an lx model. They only have springs for the gt and convertable models. I need to know if I can use gt front and rear coil springs in my mustang? What are the differences? Are they just stiffer or what?

I need to know so that I can either buy these gt springs or continue looking. Also, if someone wants to point me in the direction of a website, that would be great!

I need to get this project up, running and safetied ASAP! Please help me out...

Thanks in advance,

Steve

RockAuto.com:

MOOG front coil spring: $69
More Information for MOOG 8732

MOOG rear coil springs: $73
More Information for MOOG CC835

Can these work?

I just measured the height of my springs and figured out that the front springs are about 14" and the rear springs are about 13.75".

On rockauto.com it only gives me the height of the springs for one brand; Raybestos which says that their springs are 14.7" (load height: 11") for the front and 13.6" (load height: 10.5") for the rear. Is this close enough to the stock specs?

Rock auto sells another brand as well: ACDelco. Are they any better than MOOG or Raybestos? Because all of these prices are fairly similiar. And I am going to go ahead and assume that the spring heights are similiar as well.

I just want a stock ride height but maybe better handling if I can get it.

Just found an okay deal on lowering springs ($174 for all 4 of them). Apparently they are supposed to lower the vehicle 1.25" and improve handling.

It's a good brand too (Ford Racing): Ford Racing Mustang C-Springs (79-04) at AmericanMuscle.com - Free Shipping!

I would go for the lowered springs. When compairing springs you must mike the wire diameter to compair the load height. Measuring an old spring is useless because a worn out spring gets longer with age. The spring wants to return to its original state a straight bar of wire. Always use the load charts for desired height and load specks. I have been selecting springs for cars for over 45 years and i have to sit down and do the math. Ride height and spring rates a very hard thing to figure out. Go with the lowered units i use them with very good results. They are not easy to install if you never have done it before. So i would suggest new bushings (poli) and new ball joints MOOG PROBLEM SOLVERS.

Thanks Tom, I already have new ball joints in there (MOOG problem solvers) but can't for the life of me get the old control arm off, so I guess I will have to live with the old bushings. I will try to get my hands on a crazy impact wrench so I can get them off. And polyurethane insulators for the springs will be happening as well.

90 i dont use insulators. They will make the car higher. But if you want a higher ride height they are the ticket. Those control arm bolts are a bear and after you get the nuts off the bolts may not come out. Then its the blue wrench or the sawzall and a tun of blades and a set of new bolts from the ford store

Thanks Tom

I just ordered a set of Eibach lowering springs for $280 canadian and I will leave out the isolators but I really do need new mounts for the springs as they are pretty worn out.

Thanks, Steve
