Alright. so i got a new cap, rotor, plugs and i ordered wires, coming in tomorrow. emptied the old gas, new fuel filter, cleaned air filter, and put new gas and seafoam in tank. it does idle a little bit better, but it still shakes really hard when it drops to 800 rpm and it sounds like its going to stall, maybe a misfiring cylinder? anyway i found out how to drive it. when u toss it in drive u have to floor it but it doesnt accelerate. it only keeps the rpms at like 1200 and then once u get moving it SLOWLY increases rpms and speed. almost stalls when i stop so i throw it in neutral and rev it again. then dump it in drive.... i am totally clueless as to why its doing this. what could the problem be? im going now to get a compression tester. hopefully its not bad rings/cylinder

alright so i finished the compression test....basically cyl 3 and 4 had no compression whatsoever and 1 and 2 had about 120-135. also. car does smoke after idling for a while. idk what it smells like but it is white and it does smoke a lot. i looked behind the engine and theres some kind of black powder/liquid like it was burned, with some fresh liquid over that...do i have a blown head gasket? it does explain the bad idling and no power while driving. any other ideas?

Totally agree. New headgasket. If you have fun with these car you will know this fun. But it isn't hard to do. My last head was a little under 200. How to do.

Good stuff. So i tore down the engine to the valve cover. I acquired a rubber valve cover gasket, fuel injector o-rings, an obd-1 scanner and ordered a haynes manual. so far after looking into it, im pretty sure its not a blown head gasket. i've checked the oil and radiator fluid both are fine. my exhaust doesnt blow smoke or any water. it still sounds like its misfiring but i have no clue why. hopefully its only the fuel injectors.
