Default Need a 2.3 engine for my 89 mustang

I found out today that my number one cylinder has basically no compression. I am looking for a replacement running 2.3 to swap out. Anybody know of one or any other ford models have the same 2.3 as the 8 mustang so I can do a direct swap. Thanks

Hiya,

Exactly the same is the 83-88 2.3 Ford ranger and the 85/86-90 mustang. Why not do a rebuild on yours? Then you know for sure that the engine will be good to go for another 100,000 miles for sure. Or while were at it... TURBO!!! lmao

Good luck, Let us know what you decide!

Steve

I priced a rebuild on my engine and I can get it done for 800.00. Im not talented enough to do it myself. I got this 89 coupe its in good shape and interior is good and I already got 1000.00 dollars in it. Not sure which way to go.

Well then would you be doing the swap yourself? Because if you got a mechanic to do the swap for you, it would probably be the same price or even more... Minus the price of the engine itself.

At least pull the head off of the motor and find out what went wrong. This could be something as simple as a head gasket.

++ the head should come off and see what gives. At 800 bucks its really cheap to freshen it up. At that price its probably not a total reman.

If you get a reman, make sure the person you are dealing with knows what oil pan you have. (stamped steel or cast aluminium) There is no difference in performance but they are not interchangable unless you get the other oil pan. If the rebuilder doesnt ask which one you have bring it up and make sure you are getting the right block.

i just sold my 2.3 from my car for $100 cdn. and it had 170,000kms, so the deals are out there, specially if someones doing a v8 swap they won't be needing the old block. i got my turbo 2.3l with 150,000kms for $300 with turbo and intercooler from a wrecker.
