More than likely it was the A4LD. 18 bolts in the trans pan. The AOD i dont think was offered in that year. AOD has 14 bolts in the trans pan. Auto zone only lists the 18 bolt gasket 4 that year so my prediction is the A4LD. My 92 2.3 with 115000 original miles on it had the A4LD. It went bad, replacing it with a turbocoupe 5 speed. Do a lil research before u decide on ur choice. Good luck

If it's an overdrive trans, it's an A4LD, The AOD was never put behind a 4cyl, regardless of model year.

Most definately an A4LD. Those were the auto tranny that Ford put in the 4cyl. Mine has 165,000 miles and it's starting to go out on me. If you still want an auto tranny, I would try a C4 or C6 out of a late '70s early '80s Mustang.

C-4 only No c-6 available. Even if was a c-6 would take a lot of power to operate it. That is reason c-4 is so popular. Also if considering a c-4 Need rare bellhousing or custom bellhousing adapter and torque convertor. Also engine will have higher rpm.
