I've seen that removing the knock sensor will boost performance because once it senses the smallest little knock it kills performance for a matter of time.
The problem:
What do you mean when you say make sure the engine isnt DETONATING?
Do you mean make sure the engine is off? Or cold?
Engine on. Valve rattle, Noise usually get with bad gas or shifted too soon and engine noisy. Not sure on NA if any helpful. It is helpful on turbo car. But on a turbo car everything better be correct or engine damage. I would say same would be for the NA motor.
On an '88 non-turbo 2.3 it is right behind the alternator on the upper intake. Not sure if the later ones are the same or not. I would not disconnect it unless you know your engine is tuned correctly for the fuel you are running. if you are not sure then leave it hooked up.

I believe it's the O2 sensor on the Intake Manifold/Header for the '91-'93 foxbody. It's going to make your car run like snail poo if you do that.
Question..... I thought my injector was ticking, so I replaced it. It sounds like a lifter. When I had the O2 Sensor disconnected it ran bad until I hooked it back up. Someone said Valve Rattle is something you get from removing the sensor. Could the sensor still be bad? Is there a way to clean it to make it work better like the IAC or the PCV valve, or just buy a new one?
Sorry for the HiJacking dude. But seriously......Don't disconnect it.....you'll be sorry.
good luck finding that knock sensor. i have a 93 vert, and i have the haynes book and have asked countless people and have looked over countless diagrams. i can't find it . i don't think that the 93 has one, honestly. if you do figure it out, please post it on here somewhere. i'm sure i'm not the only one who would appreciate it
This is what a 1985-1993 4 cyl mustang knock sensor looks like 1985-1993 Ford Mustang - Delphi Knock Sensor
I haven't seen anything like this on my engine. But if it's for sale then i'm guessing it has one. Just need to find the location.
Just because a parts store is selling something for a particular application, doesn't mean it really fits. It's half the problem with Autozone and Advanced. The snot-nosed former burger flipper behind the counter doesn't know any better when the computer is wrong.
The dual plug 2.3's DO NOT have a knock sensor. End of story.

Damn son. Lol. I didn't think so. NO KNOCK SENSOR ON DUEL PLUG 2.3L!!!!!!!!!
