Default VSS Signal in 2.3

Chandler,NavySVO, Tom
Does the VSS signal/input go to the ECU?
If it does what does it affect on a N/A 2.3?
I'm directing this question at y'all since I figure one of you will know the skinny on it, but of course ALL input is welcome!!

It goes to the cruze control amplifier. Then its fed to the ECM. Some without cruze go directly to to the ECM and newer fords go to the GEM module. Depends on optioms and year. Hope this helps. TOM

I remember reading somewhere (i.e. may or may not be correct), that there's a function in the ECU that does something with either ignition timing or fuel delivery at idle when the car is not moving. It looks for pulses from the VSS to determine if the car is in motion.

I kept the automatic ECU in my car when I put the 5spd in it, and I noticed when crawling in gear at idle (traffic) that if it went too long without throttle input, the car would fall on it's face. The engine didn't quit, but it would almost stall. Blip the throttle and it bucks, but push in the clutch, blip the throttle and let the clutch out again and it's fine.
I replaced the VSS with a parts store replacement and the problem seemed to go away for about a month or so, then it started noticing it again. I just got myself in the habit of doing the clutch, blip deal every so often when doing the slow roll in traffic.

I've been anxious to see if the problem still exists after the turbo motor goes in and the LA3 is running the show.

VSS is complicated it controlls fuel STRATIGIES like chandler pointed out. It is also used for ABS but not in the early days and it also is used for CRUZE and VAPS. The most important thing it does is transmission stratigies. But in our cars (early mustangs ETC it lets the computer know speed and sets shift function. It also tells the ECM the vehicle is in motion. For example EGR in some cases wont operate in neutral or at speeds determined by the ECM parameters. For example the trunk in my olds wont open if i push the release button on the dash if the vehicle is getting a VSS signal. I dont design the computers to know all of the paramiters it covers. But in the early models it was limited. Today it covers anti lock brakes to trunk opening features to say the least. Complicated sensor and it does many functions as chandler also so correctly pointed out. TOM.
