I remember reading somewhere (i.e. may or may not be correct), that there's a function in the ECU that does something with either ignition timing or fuel delivery at idle when the car is not moving. It looks for pulses from the VSS to determine if the car is in motion.
I kept the automatic ECU in my car when I put the 5spd in it, and I noticed when crawling in gear at idle (traffic) that if it went too long without throttle input, the car would fall on it's face. The engine didn't quit, but it would almost stall. Blip the throttle and it bucks, but push in the clutch, blip the throttle and let the clutch out again and it's fine.
I replaced the VSS with a parts store replacement and the problem seemed to go away for about a month or so, then it started noticing it again. I just got myself in the habit of doing the clutch, blip deal every so often when doing the slow roll in traffic.
I've been anxious to see if the problem still exists after the turbo motor goes in and the LA3 is running the show. |
