Un strap it and let it hang to get to the wires and get the unit out. Facing the back of the car, the left is the float and the right is the pump.

If you are uder the car, look on the passenger side of the tank. There should be a small wiring harness (5 wires IIRC) and a plug that will detach the tank pigtail from the main loom. Detach it before you drop the tank.
Here in the pic, the sender goes where the circle is, and the pump goes where the square is.

Make sure you replace the seals and such. 50resto makes a kit for this very reason. You can get the sender there too.

Sorry dude i thought you asked where the sender is. So i said in the tank. I was not messing with you i just thought you did not KNOW sorry. NAVY gave you a good photo of the tank and location. Also remember to disconnect the fuel lines before dropping the tank all the way. TOM

If you just have the car on jackstands you can leave them connected. Just undo the closest clamp to the tank and you should be good to go. Remember, the return line takes a special tool to disconnect the hairpin fitting. It can be had at any parts place for less than $10.

That's how I changed mine. Let it hang.

One more thing. If you are just changing the sender, there is no need to take the fuel lines loose at all
