i love my mustang. just to make that perfectly clear before the complaining starts. i've also passed up a few opportunities to sell it or trade it because i love it so much... that being said, what the hell is its deal?!? in the last 4 months or so, i've re-done the wires from the battery to just about everything else, replaced the starter, alternator, starter relay, plugs, wires, fuel filter, air filter, a couple of vaccuum lines, mastercylinder, muffler, deleted the intake silencer, and wired the fan to a switch temporarily. it ran perfect for like 2 days upon completion of all of this. now, when i start it for the first time in a few hours, the rpms drop slowly until they're below 700ish and the motor tries to die out for about 20 seconds, then the rpms kick up to like 1500 and slowly make their way to about 1000 to 1100 where they generally stay at idle. its not a major problem, but i'm trying to get the most mileage i can get out of this thing, and its fighting the hell out of me. i thought egr, but as i was taking it off, i noticed a vaccuum line was broken off the tree. i said oh yeah, there it is! but i was wrong. it did seem to be better for about a second, then it started with the idle crap again. all of my vaccuum hoses look fine now. i'm thinking egr or catalytic converter... anyone out there agree or have a better suggestion? this is driving me nuts. i would express how much i love my beat up little 4 banger stang, but with the number of people talking in this forum alone, i don't believe i have to. i just want it to quit being a pain in my ass for a while. got too much other than this to deal with in my life right now, and this is destroying my financial stability. if i can't figure it out, next issue it has will get it sold or trashed, both of which i am loath to do, so anyone please help me save this sweet little go getter so it will run me around for years to come again. please...
one more thing, before its asked, i only replaced the wires from the battery to the starter, relay, and ground. i didn't go hacking on the harness or anything.
The egr valve maybe leaking thru. May need to take it off and see if air leaks thru. Could make a metal plate to go between it and intake for a test. If idle ok now you know where problems is. Also the IAC [on throttle body with 2 wires] may need cleaning. Use carb cleaner. How to check the cat is here on this site. Look to left it is there. Doesn't have a direct link. Turbo Tek Toys' Tips
if its MAF you might need to reset the ECU like i had to do when i replaced my intake it may be getting more air then it knows what to do with so you should disconnect the battery for 5 minutes and then reconnect should fix it. then just drive it for like a few hundred miles itll work it out. thats what i did. other than that im not sure bro.

i'll check the egr asap. gonna delete the cats anyway so not too worried about them yet. my stang is a 93 'vert 4-cyl and i'm getting no codes anymore. i checked. so far seems like everything points to the egr. thanks for the advice, i'll post again once i've checked these suggestions and let u all know what worked
oh, one more thing, the intake silencer got replaced a year ago, and the ecu was reset when i changed the o2 sensor and ect sensor. if my car is getting more air than it knew what to do with, i'm pretty sure i'd have horsepower, not hamster power. stupid anemic 4 cyl lol
this sounds very much like a problem i had a while back. you might wanna check the PCV valve (if it rattles its good). it turned out to be the culprit when i was idleing erratically.
the pcv they sell for the 93 4 cyl at advance and auto zone, has no place on my 93 motor. bought one not too long ago to eliminat this possibility and when i went to put it on, i found out that the one i got doesn't go on my car. where i would expect the pcv, there is a rubber hose with a 90 degree elbow on it that runs from the valve cover to the throttle body. there is no kind of valve in this setup and the one they gave me will not fit on my car. this thing drivin me nuts...but i love it anyway...
its the right one, the pcv has a big hose under your intake manifold. i spent a while searching for mine on my 93 lol. its a big hose running from the block towards the firewall, youll see it when you look

He's right. That's where it is on my 93. Look to the right of the plenum. The hose runs from under the plenum.
