Default help with timing belt change 1993 mustang

I am a little confused. I am in the middle of changing the timing belt on my dads 1993 mustang 2.3. I have the timing cover off and have the stock belt off. How do you get the belt back on the crankshaft sprocket.? Does the harmonic balancer have to come off? I am a little confused? the Haynes manual says no, but I see no other way to make it back on the sprocket.?

how much torque does it take to get that bolt out. My compresser has 155psi and I can't budge the darn thing.

Try this use a 3/4 drive impact. If you dont have one borrow one that bolt should not be that tight?? If you cant borrow one here is a trick that will in some instances loosen the bolt. Get a long breaker bar or a short breaker bar with a pipe on it and put it on the bolt. Let the pipe or the handle hit the left side of the frame rail (passengers side) then hit the starter (crank it over). This will break the bolt loose (most of the times) Be very careful and keep everyone away. Sometimes the bolt wont come out . If that happens leave the handle 6-8 inches away from the frame so it gets a running start. Use this method as a last resort and be extreamly careful. TOM

This worked for me, twice. I think the bolt is 22 or 23 mm. But it's better on your car if you rest the breaker bar on the concrete driveway. That's how I had to do it. But it worked beautifully.

a quick thought; it might be prudent to go ahead and change out the thermostat while youre doing the timing belt, and as everyone else has said make friends with a big breaker bar cuz youre gonna need it. just be carefull of the crankshaft pulley when you go to use the breaker bar! somehow my dad destroyed mine while i was at school when he was tryin to break the bolt lose (his story and he's stickin to it )....that was 4 years ago and the last time i let him play with my car when i wasnt around.
